In 2004 Nick was approached by then Sheriff, Steve Bundy to work in the jail. During this time, Nick knew he wanted to be Sheriff some day.

Nick joined the Sterling Police Officer as a patrol officer where he became a Drug Recognition Expert, Sniper, range master, and Corporal after extensive leadership training.
